Four buildings razed

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Monday carried out a demolition drive on the Palam-Dabri road in Najafgarh Zone targeting at least four buildings, besides removing encroachments from public land in the Central Zone.

Equipped with bulldozers, the civic body's demolition squads reached the site and started razing illegal structures. Though people tried to resist the move, the strong presence of police personnel ensured that the drive went off peacefully.

Police team to Mumbai

NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police team has been despatched to Mumbai to investigate the links of the international drug syndicate busted here on Sunday with the arrest of four persons, including a Canadian national of Indian origin. The police had seized 100 kg of ephedrine that is used for manufacturing party drugs.

The team would carry out searches at the Juhu flat of the prime accused, Gurdish Singh Toor, who during interrogation allegedly disclosed that he had set up a full-fledged laboratory there. UPSC candidates' case

NEW DELHI: Social activists Sandeep Pandey and Aruna Roy on Monday spoke to Union Public Service Commission officials on behalf of some aggrieved candidates who appeared for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examinations, 2006. The candidates are demanding that the UPSC come up with the model answer-sheets and cut-off marks for selection.

Prakash Jha, one of the aggrieved candidates, said while none of the candidates was allowed to enter the Commission's premises on Shahjahan Road, the Commission assured Mr. Pandey and Ms. Roy that they would be coming up with the model answers in about 15 days.

Alleged thief held

NEW DELHI: An alleged thief arrested by the police at Nangloi died on his way to the police station in the early hours of Monday. The Area Divisional Magistrate has been informed and a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered.

Sonu was allegedly caught red-handed by three labourers while trying to steal something from a plastic factory. The labourers had allegedly beaten him up and then handed him over to the police.

Fatally knocked down

NEW DELHI: A young man was fatally injured when a jeep hit his motorcycle near PVR Saket on Monday. The jeep driver, Balivinder Singh, was arrested.
