NEW DELHI: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner A.K Nigam and Law Officer A.K. Sharma on Monday tendered unconditional apologies to the Delhi High Court for de-sealing farm houses in the Capital having less than 60-foot-wide approach roads. The Commissioner and the Law Officer appeared in person before a Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kaliash Gambhir and said in their apologies that the de-sealing of farm houses having less than 60-foot-wide approach roads was ordered by "mistake". The apologies came after instances where the MCD had allowed farm houses having less that 60-foot-wide roads to lease out to organise social functions was brought to the notice of the Court by a Court Commissioner. Thereafter, the Bench directed the civic body to strictly stick to its guidelines governing grant of permission to farm houses to organise social functions. When on July 11 the Court Commissioner informed the Court that the local body had de-sealed even those farm houses that did not qualify for organising social functions as per the Courts orders and the MCD guidelines, counsel for the civic body had submitted that they had been de-sealed under the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act. Upon this, the Bench had summoned the Commissioner in person to explain how the local body had de-sealed the sealed farmhouses.
