Coimbatore: There will be fool-proof arrangements for peaceful and smooth conduct of Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations, said the Inspector-General of Police, West Zone, A. Subramanian. Mr. Subramanian told reporters on Monday that a contingency plan to ensure a peaceful Chaturthi and immersion procession in the zone was being prepared. As many as 3,401 idols would be installed.
Armed guards
There would be armed guards at the place of installation and also along the immersion procession route. There will also be vehicle and lodge checks. Local police officials have completed discussions with the PWD authorities, fire and rescue services department and the Electricity Board officials for making adequate arrangements at public places were the idols are installed and also at the immersion points. More than 4,500 policemen will be deployed for the festival. Festival organisers and devotees have been requested to abide by the directives and guidelines of the State and the courts for ensuring peace. In Coimbatore City, there would be 145 idols and seven places have been earmarked for the procession and immersions would take place at Singanallur and Muthannankulam. There would be 936 idols in Coimbatore rural district, 654 in Erode, 384 in Nilgiris, 230 in Salem city, 235 in Salem district, 152 in Namakkal, 147 in Dharmapuri and 430 in Krishnagiri. The organisers have been asked to confine themselves to the earmarked place as well as the procession route.
