Bangalore: The nearly 9,000 executives of Navratna public sector undertaking BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited) have decided to return the plant performance payment to the company as a mark of protest against low performance incentives, low pay and perks, non-merger of dearness allowance with basic pay and discriminatory perquisite tax. The executives have also decided to boycott the company's golden jubilee celebrations this month as the management has failed to consider their demands. BHEL Officers Association said that the company's board was equipped to consider and clear the demands as it enjoyed sweeping financial powers as a Navratna public sector undertaking. "But the Navratna status appears to be merely on paper in this case. The company management has lobbed the demands into the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries for a final decision," S.R. Godbole, general secretary, BHEL Officers Association, said.
