BANGALORE: You can test your quizzing skills at this event. You will also be helping a good cause: helping children, who would otherwise have been homeless, find security and warmth of a home. SOS Children's Village of India is organising the SOS Corporate Quiz 2006 at the Grand Ashok on August 26. This Children's Village on Bannerghatta Road here is one of 39 in India and there are 122 other allied projects, all helping children in need of support. "The corporate quiz is to bring more awareness about the need of children in our country and the work done by SOS for them and also to raise funds which will be utilised to reach out to more children in need of help,'' says M.K. Lokesh, Project Director for Bangalore. The SOS corporate quiz will begin with a written preliminary round followed by final rounds. A reputed quizmaster, supported by professionals and corporate leaders from different fields, will conduct the event. "The participating fee for each team is Rs. 6,000, which is equivalent to sponsoring one child's education for one year at an SOS village. We plan to approach all the corporates who have supported the Children's Village over the last 42 years of our existence and hope to cultivate new friends,'' Mr. Lokesh said. So, far 20 participating teams have been registered for the preliminary rounds. Of them six teams will be selected to enter the final rounds. The entire proceedings from the quiz are expected to provide education to 261 children at the village in Bangalore. To register, teams can email sosblr@vsnl.net, visit the website www.soscvindia.org or call Ph: 22484002, 22484003. The SOS villages help orphaned and homeless children by giving them a "family", home and a strong foundation to eventually lead an independent and secure life. In the Bangalore SOS village, 261 children have found a new home. Typically, a group of 10 children are looked after by a "mother" and are given affection and care they need. The "mothers" are simple women who have come from different parts of Karnataka. The children are provided good education and some have gone to college and found careers for themselves.
