ANANTAPUR: An RTC driver working for the Puttaparthi depot in the district, Gopi Naik (42), allegedly committed suicide by hanging in his house at Badenaik thanda on Monday night due to alleged harassment of the depot manager. According to the police, the driver used to go on the Puttaparthi-Nellore-Kavali route regularly and he was suspended by depot manager Basappa about a fortnight ago for a small mistake. The driver repeatedly urged the depot manager to revoke the suspension after a week, as is the general practice in the RTC . The depot manager was not moved by the driver's plight even as the latter said that his family would not survive without salary. The residents of the tribal habitation and his relatives staged a dharna in front of the Puttaparthi bus depot on Tuesday and charged that the depot manager was responsible for the death of an employee. The police registered a case against the depot manager under Section 306 of the IPC .
