Unbeaten 112 by Saravana Kumar

Madurai: S.P. Saravana Kumar powered his way to a dazzling unbeaten 112 and claimed three wickets for 17 runs to help host Theni post a handsome 133-runs victory over Nilgiris in the five-team league in the TNCA-inter-district under-19 tournament at Theni on Tuesday.

In another match a six-wicket haul by Vijay (six for 39) could not stop his team Dharumapuri losing to Erode by 30 runs.

At Namakkal, Thoothukudi defeated host Namakkal by two wickets.

At Theni: Theni 209 in 49 overs (S.P. Saravana Kumar 112 not out, A. Mohan Kumar three for 40, S. Mani Kandan three for 42, Sakthi Mohan three for 26) bt Nilgiris 76 in 29.4 overs (S.P. Saravana kumar three for 17, Selvendran three for 4).

Erode 169 in 38.5 overs (Nithiyandan 57, Vijay six for 39) bt Dharmapuri 139 in 42.3 overs (Kiran three for 26, Karanraj three for 30).

Tiruvallur (19 points) and Erode (13) qualified for the second stage.

At Namakkal: Namakkal 152 in 27 overs (Sathiya Kumar 60, D. Jegan four for 39, T. Marimuthu four for 32) lost to Thoothukudi 157 for eight in 32.4 overs. Thiruvannamalai 167 in 38.4 overs (C. Kamurudin 45, S. Sathiraj 45) bt Perambalur 75 in 27.2 overs (M. Vikesh Kumar four for 23).

Chennai teams post wins

Madras Christian College and Sathyabama Engineering College, both from Chennai, got the better of their opponents in the men's super league encounter of the second Tamil Nadu inter-collegiate basketball tournament for men and women organised by Babu Shankar Memorial Basketball Club at the Vysya College courts here on Tuesday.

MCC struggled a bit to overcome Dr. GRD College of Science (Coimbatore) 72-65, but Sathyabama scored a 68-47 win over Sethu Institute of Technology (Madurai).
