DEHRA DUN: The development process in Uttaranchal got a boost with the inauguration of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) by the Union Minister of State for Commerce, Jairam Ramesh, and the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) incubation centre by the Union Communications and Information Technology Minister, Dayanidhi Maran, here on Tuesday. The DGFT office will go a long way in helping entrepreneurs willing to export their produce and the incubation centre is expected to act as a hub for promoting IT education and provide software services to industrial units being established here. Mr. Ramesh promised all help from the Centre for infrastructure development in Uttaranchal. Discussions were on at various levels to ensure a railway bypass between Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee, he said. An export processing zone would be established soon in Dehra Dun to promote herbs and herbal medicine industry. Efforts were on to upgrade the Jolly Grant Airport to allow night landing and the works should be completed in a year, he said, adding that a Regional Passport Office would be opened in Dehra Dun in October. Mr. Maran assured the gathering that two more parks would be established at Pant Nagar and Rishikesh. The Chief Minister, Narayan Dutt Tiwari, was all praise for Mr. Ramesh in getting the Central tax benefits package for Uttaranchal extended by three years, up to March 2010.
