BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved a policy under which 10 lakh hectares of non-forest fallow and ravine land would be allotted to educated unemployed, landless farm labourers, youth, self-help groups, the physically challenged, freedom fighters, ex-defence personnel and those belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other weaker sections. Briefing media persons, Minister for Public Relations Narendra Singh Tomar said a district-level committee would identify fallow land and a maximum of 2 hectares of land would be allotted to each individual beneficiary, who would also be offered a financial package for land development. The beneficiaries would have the permission to seek investment and use the allotted land for agricultural activities. He said the Government wanted to attract investment for proper use of fallow land and provide an opportunity to the landless labourers, educated unemployed and weaker sections to use this land. "The Government wants to encourage investment and proposals would be invited for setting up units under this policy," Mr. Tomar added.
