Commissioner for Health and Family Welfare visits district hospital in Haveri

HAVERI: Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Basavaraju has asked the Deputy Commissioner of Haveri Amalan Biswas to submit a report on irregularities in the purchase of land for district hospital in the city.

Mr. Basavaraju was here on Tuesday to inspect the land and submit a report regarding the suitability of the land for the construction of district hospital.

Elected representatives and various organisations had been objecting to the proposal to build the hospital on the land on Veerapur Road in Haveri.

Mr. Basavaraju told presspersons that the place was not suitable for locating the hospital. He said apart from choosing a wrong place, higher price had been paid to buy it. Based on the report of the Deputy Commissioner, strict action would be taken against those involved in the deal, he said. The Health Commissioner said the new district hospital would be located in the present hospital premises. The residential quarters for the hospital staff would be demolished and the hospital building would come up in its place.

Recruitment

Mr. Basavaraju said the department would be recruiting 500 doctors by the end of this financial year.

Applications had been called for the posts of 250 doctors and after completing the recruitment, applications would be called for another 250 posts in October, he said. He said 125 trauma centres had been sanctioned for the State among which 48 centres had been set up. They had become defunct because of shortage of staff, he said. The Health Commissioner visited the district hospital.

After interacting with the officials he asked the Deputy Commissioner to take steps for appointing 12 doctors on contract.
