Akshaya and NIC working out the modalities of the project

GOING TECH-SAVVY: Akshaya Malappuram district secretary M. Salim conducting a training session for village officers in Malappuram on Tuesday.

MALAPPURAM: Land details of the entire Malappuram district will soon be available on the Net. Malappuram will be the first district in the State to make available on the Net complete land records of its 3,550 sq. km. area in digital form. The work is expected to be completed by December.

The Akshaya e-project is involved in the digitisation of the land records in Malappuram. Akshaya managers in Malappuram are working in tandem with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), which has developed the digitisation software.

Land records will first be made available on Akshaya intranet at all Askhaya centres as well as the Collectorate, two Revenue divisional offices, six taluk offices, 14 block offices, 14 agricultural assistant director offices, 44 police stations and eight Government and aided colleges in the district.

"People can get access to the details of any piece of land through Akshaya intranet first, and the Internet later," said P.K. Basheer Ahamed, NIC district officer.

The NIC and Akshaya are offering training to Revenue and civic officials in the district. All 135 village officers of Malappuram were introduced to the software and the nitty-gritty of digitised land records at a training session held at the Collectorate here on Tuesday.

M. Salim, Akshaya district secretary, and Mr. Basheer explained the processes of digitisation to the village officers with the aid of multi-media. The training will continue on Wednesday.

The heads of all civic bodies, including 102 grama panchayat presidents, will be imparted training next week.

Akshaya managers will start data entry from August 29. The NIC has already made the base registry. Akshaya personnel will directly collect the latest land details from the 135 village offices.

The people of Malappuram district have been asked to furnish the details of the land they possess in a prescribed form together with their document copies. The deadline for submission of the land details at village offices is August 31.

"Without people's cooperation, it is hard to ensure up-to-date land records on the Net," said Mr. Salim.

Committees at the taluk and village-level will be formed to ensure smooth transmutation of manual land records into digital form.

District Panchayat president Arimbra Mohammed inaugurated the training sessions on Tuesday.
