TAMBARAM: An armed gang attacked a woman and took away her jewellery near Tambaram on Tuesday. P. Gajalakshmi was alone at her house on Sriram Nagar First Cross Street in Madambakkam. Her husband, Pon Palanivel, was away at work in the Secretariat Post Office, while her daughters had gone to a nearby school. After completing her chores, Gajalakshmi was about to shut the rear door when three men forced their way in and threatened her. When she resisted, they attacked her with knives, causing injuries in the forehead and arm. They gagged her and increased the TV volume. The robbers punched her hard in the face and shoulders before snatching away two gold chains and earrings, all weighing eight sovereigns. They then ransacked the house and fled with the jewels they snatched from her. The woman came outside raising an alarm. Those nearby contacted her husband and rushed her to a nearby clinic.
Second incident
Police suspect it to be the handiwork of an organised gang as a similar incident had taken place at Madambakkam about six months ago. The case is yet to be solved.
