POLLACHI: Portraying a rosy picture on the future of Indian software industry, Atul Nishar, chairman of Mumbai-based software major, Hexaware Technologies, said that Information Technology and Enabled Services industry would continue to be the fastest growing industry for the next five years and beyond. Interacting with students of Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (MCET) here on Monday, he said that the total exports from the sector from the country has touched US $23 billion last fiscal. It was just $100 million in 1990. Stating that the Indian software industry is the fastest growing industry globally, Mr. Nishar said the industry would provide direct employment to 40 lakh people in 2010 with $60 billion worth exports. India's image has undergone a major change during the recent past with the remarkable performance by the IT industry, he said. Indian talent, fluency in English, aptitude, quick grasp and understanding were the reasons for our continuing success.Mr. Nishar asked the students to develop soft skills to increase employability.Vice Chairman of MCET, M. Manickam, said that they wanted to be more interactive with companies. The programme was organised by the Training and Placement Cell and Student's Guild of Service of the MCET.
