Call to protect interests of people from Andhra region in Telangana

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti is on the verge of beginning an agitation akin to the one witnessed in 1969, says the Andhra Prayojana Parirakshana Samithi

GUNTUR: The interests of people from Andhra region residing in Telangana need to be protected by the State Government, Andhra Prayojana Parirakshana Samithi resolved here on Tuesday.

At its general body meeting to elicit the viewpoint of people on the latest political developments related to formation of Telangana, the speakers said that they were worried as the Telangana Rashtra Samiti was on the verge of beginning an agitation akin to the one witnessed in 1969.

The Government must ensure that none from Andhra region was affected in the agitation.

None of the Ministers from Andhra region was reacting to the developments; hence the Samithi was worried over the protection of landed and other assets of people from this region.

"If the agitation is peaceful we are not bothered and properties of people from Andhra protected, we do not have any problem," said Samithi president P.S. Murthy.

Mobile Handloom expo

Zilla Parishad Chairperson Kuchipudi Vijaya on Tuesday flagged off a `Mobile Handloom products exhibition' at AC College in Guntur.

The mobile van would go round the district touching all major villages and towns in the mandals making the products of weavers available to people at reasonable price with the Government-provided discount.

APCO Director Rambabu and Department of Textile Assistant Director Venkaiah participated in the inaugural.

The Zilla Parishad Chairperson called upon people of the district to come to the rescue of the weaving community by supporting them in the form of patronising sarees, dress material and bed sheets when the van arrived in their village.

Sarees distributed

On the occasion of cine star Chiranjeevi's birthday the Chaitanya Spoorthi distributed 100 sarees and dhotis to residents of Sarada Colony slum area.

Mayor Kanna Nagaraju gave away the clothes in the presence of the NGO's treasurer Chandu Hanumayamma.
