YSR pays tributes to Prakasam

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy paid glowing tributes to `Andhra Kesari' Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu on the eve of his 134th birth anniversary on August 23. Sonia to visit Kurnool

KURNOOL: AICC president Sonia Gandhi is likely to pay a visit to Kurnool on September 27 to declare open Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy Park (Kisan Ghat). The park has been developed at a cost of Rs 2.5 crores. Tourism Minister Geetha Reddy, Minister for Lift Irrigation M. Mareppa and senior officers will hold a meeting on Wednesday to review the arrangements for the visit. - Staff Reporter

Leave ceiling raised

HYDERABAD: The Finance Department has issued orders increasing the earned leave ceiling from 240 days to 300 days for retired staff and employees who died while in service. GO 234 was issued on August 10, a press release by the State Teachers' Union said. The order will take effect from September 16, 2005. - Special Correspondent

Staff to donate Rs. 8 cr.

HYDERABAD: Employees of the Commercial Taxes, Excise, Registration and Transport Departments met Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday and expressed their resolve to contribute a day's basic pay for August, totalling Rs. 8 crores. - Special Correspondent

Murder case postponed

ANANTAPUR: The Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate's Court on Tuesday postponed the next hearing in the Tagarakunta Prabhakar murder case to September 5. Boya Prabhakar, a close associate of Paritala Ravindra and the then sitting Mandal Parishad President of Kanaganapalli, was allegedly shot dead by Julakanti Srinivasa Reddy alias Moddu Sreenu on September 5, 2004 on the court road here.

Three die in accident

ONGOLE: Three persons died when the vehicle on which they were travelling lost control and overturned near a bridge at Tripurantakam village in Prakasam district. They were going from Vijayawada to Kurnool when the accident occurred. After crossing a bridge at Dupadu near Tripurantakam, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The driver, Madanna, Peddaiah and cleaner Sai Pahelwan, were killed on the spot. — Special Correspondent.

Landmines found

VIZIANAGARAM: A major disaster was averted on Monday afternoon when the district special police party found and defused two landmines, each containing 15 kg gelatin. The mines were concealed in two plastic cans with detonators and wire bundles and planted under a culvert on the Kurupam-Elwinpeta road. According to SP Vikram Singh Mann, the mines were planted by CPI (Maoists). — Correspondent

Girls die of snake bite

ADILABAD: Two girl students, Rajeshwari, 13 and Laxmi, 12, of Kasturba residential school at Dahegaon mandal headquarters died on Tuesday after a snake bit them on the hostel premises. The school principal, Venugopal, who too was bitten by the snake, is under treatment in the hospital. Both the girls were class VI students. — Staff Reporter
