MYSORE: Close on the heels of increase in salaries and perks for the Members of Parliament, the members at the Mysore Zilla Panchayat on Tuesday sought a raise in their salaries too. At the zilla panchayat meet on Tuesday, Periyapatna member Chowdaiah initiated the discussion on salaries of the ZP members and requested president Rajamma to send a proposal to the State Government in this regard. Citing the example of Kerala, Mr. Chowdaiah said the salaries of the members of zilla panchayats, taluk panchayats and gram panchayats had been increased. Similarly, the State Government must increase the salaries of members of panchayat raj institutions to encourage them to perform better, he added. Mr. Chowdaiah was supported by all members of the ZP present at the meeting. President Rajamma announced that a proposal would be sent in this regard to the State Government soon. Later, members discussed issues such as the implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, shortage of teachers in rural schools and appointment of workers to anganwadis.
