NEW DELHI: In a new initiative to help publishers across the country, the Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI) has started issuing online title verification letters. People can also submit their applications online and know their status on RNI's website. So instead of coming to the RNI office here in the Capital to file applications and renew titles, publishers can now download their title verification letters from its website and send them online. RNI has developed this in-house system with the help of the National Informatics Centre (NIC). It puts the sanctioned verification letter on its secure website that can be accessed from anywhere, anytime. The cleared titles appear on RNI's website on a day-to-day basis from which the applicant or publisher can know the status of their application. Publishers can also download the title certificate in Hindi-English bi-lingual format and take its printout to the District Magistrate or the local authority to start publishing periodicals. Besides helping the publishers and bringing in more transparency, the initiative will also result in the Exchequer saving money since the title verification letters that were sent by registered post so far would now be sent by ordinary post.
