Traders' delegation meets Union Minister

NEW DELHI: A delegation under the banner of Confederation of All-India Traders (CAIT) called on Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy on Tuesday to apprise him of their concerns over the sealing issue. They appealed to the Minister to find a solution to the problem as the livelihood of lakhs of people of Delhi was at stake.

Mr. Reddy told them the Government was fully seized of the matter and the implications of court orders. The Government was finding ways and means to provide maximum possible relief to Delhiites while upholding the provisions of law, he added.

Water supply

to be affected

NEW DELHI: Due to shifting of water mains, supply will be available at low pressure on Thursday evening and Friday morning at Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Darya Ganj, LNJP Hospital, Kashmere Gate, Mori Gate, Ajmeri Gate and Ramlila Ground.

According to a Delhi Jal Board release, tankers will be available on telephone No. 29814106 (Jal Sadan), 26414647 (Greater Kailash), 23370911 (I.P. Pumping Station) and 23650040 (Shastri Nagar).

Report released on household sector

NEW DELHI: Delhi Finance Minister A. K. Walia on Tuesday released a report on "Assets and Liabilities of Household Sector in Delhi".

The report has been prepared by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics on the basis of a sample survey conducted in 2003. According to the survey, the average value of assets owned per family in Delhi has been estimated at Rs. 7.42 lakhs. The average value of assets per person has been worked out at Rs. 1.62 lakhs, while the average value of assets per household in rural Delhi is Rs. 7.14 lakhs as against the national average of Rs. 2.65 lakhs.

Shiromani Akali Dal expresses concern

NEW DELHI: Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday expressed concern and anguish over an incident at Jaipur in which the hair of a Class XII Sikh student was cut by some miscreants after he objected to their indulging in eve-teasing.

Onkar Singh Thapar, general secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal, urged the Rajasthan Chief Minister to take action against the guilty students. He also contacted the Director-General of Rajasthan Police demanding immediate arrest of those behind the incident.

Court refuses stay

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday refused to stay the demolition of illegal electronic shops near Diwan Hall at historic Chandni Chowk in central Delhi.

A division bench dismissed the petition saying that the illegalshops must be demolished.
