VISAKHAPATNAM: Close on the heels of a bomb hoax, which sent parents into a tizzy last week, fresh rumours of bombs being planted at some schools in the city sent parents rushing to schools to take their children back home. The rumours, the origin of which is not known, started around 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Children of some parents went to schools and demanded that their children be sent home as they had heard that bombs were planted at some schools. The school managements told them that they had not received any such calls. The school managements called up the Police Control Room (100) to find out the truth and the policemen in charge of the control room informed the former that they had not received any bomb threats. The school managements contacted District Education Officer R. Surender Reddy and apprised him of the situation in the wake of the rumours.
DEO's directive
The District Education Officer directed the school managements to allow parents to take back their children home and call it a day. As news spread like wildfire, many anxious parents headed to schools from their offices. "This time no hoax calls have been received and there is no cause for worry. We have issued statements through cable channels and satellite networks asking parents not to worry," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Bhavana Saxena said when contacted.
