ICET counselling for minorities begins

6,786 candidates vie for 3,160 seats

Hyderabad: Centralised counselling for ICET 2006 qualified Muslim minority candidates commenced here on Tuesday. Twenty-one MBA colleges and 23 MCA colleges under the auspices of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Minority Educational Institutions (FAPMEI) have come together to extend Single Window II for admission. Simultaneous online counselling is on at Hyderabad, Kadapa and Visakhapatnam till August 26. As many as 6,786 qualified candidates will be vying for 3,160 seats. The counselling was inaugurated at the Institution of Engineers, Khairatabad, by Sulaiman Siddiqui, Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University. Commissioner, Technical Education, Rajnder Narender Nimje, was also present on the occasion. Nuzhat Fatima, who held 693 rank was the first to get admission into the Amjad Ali Khan College of Business Management. Minority colleges from Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Kadapa, Nalgonda, Khammam, Guntur, Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts are taking part in the counselling. Prof. Siddiqui and Mr. Nimje were impressed by the orderly way the counselling was being conducted.

Reservation

Later, speaking to presspersons, Mr. Javeed said except for 15 per cent reservations for non locals there was no other reservation. About 1,200 candidates would be admitted through counselling everyday. Students who have taken admission under Single Window I could slide to SW II and vice versa.

Government approved fee of Rs. 23,000 was being charged for both the courses, Mr. Javeed said.
