HYDERABAD: Osmania University campus reverberated with slogans of students demanding better facilities in hostels on Tuesday.

Scores of students, led by different student organisations, staged protest demonstrations urging authorities to renovate the dilapidated `A', `B' and `C' hostel buildings and provide adequate water supply at the hostel for women.

Ravi, a student of Islamic Studies, residing in room no. 26 of `A' hostel, sustained an injury on his shoulder when a part of the roof came off and fell on him on Monday night.

He was treated as outpatient at a hospital and said to be out of danger.

Taking the incident seriously, hostel inmates staged a sit-in late in the night demanding that the officials immediately renovate all the buildings or construct new ones for the safety of students.

Continuing their protests, the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Progressive Democratic Students Union, Students Federation of India and Telangana Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi Vibhag organised a demonstration in front of the Arts College.

They prevented the teaching staff from entering the college building. The protest programme was called off after two hours.

Later, scores of inmates of the Women's Hostel, led by the PDSU, held a protest programme at the hostel accusing the university authorities of failing to provide basic needs like water.

As the demonstration continued for more than two hours, Vice-Chancellor Sulaiman Siddiqui came to the hostel and assured the students to solve all the problems in phased manner.
