BANGALORE: Two abandoned suitcases that were found on pavements at two places around the crowded Majestic area in the city on Tuesday evening sent the police and the public into a tizzy. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) K.V. Sharatchandra told The Hindu that around 5.30 p.m., the public found a suitcase lying on the pavement near the Tribhuvan Cinema and alerted the Upparpet Police. The police rushed to the spot with sniffer dog squad. Though the dogs did not smell an explosive, the police took no chance and called the bomb disposal squad.
Clothes, books found
The squad opened the suitcase only to find clothes and books stuffed inside. Even as the police and the bomb disposal squad were busy working near the Tribhuvan cinema, they got information that another suitcase was lying abandoned on the pavement of Kempe Gowda Road near the junction of Sagar Cinema, Mr. Sharatchandra said. The search revealed that even the second suitcase contained clothes and books.
Search for owners
Mr. Sharatchandra said the police were trying to locate owners of the abandoned suitcases and the reason for leaving the suitcases on the pavements. Anxiety prevailed for over two hours in the Majestic area as the search operations went on till 7.30 p.m.
