NEW DELHI: A total of 12 cases of dengue and 33 of malaria have been reported in Capital so far, Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri said at a meeting on "Water and Vector Borne Diseases" here on Tuesday. The Minister said in the week ended August 19, a total of 12 cases of dengue, of which eight were from other States, were reported in the Capital while of the 33 cases of malaria, 25 were from other States. Dr. Shastri, who reviewed the situation with senior officials from the Health Department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council, Delhi Jal Board and Railways, said that during the week 24 cases of cholera were also reported with which the total number of cholera cases during the year went up to 800. He said that to curb the disease, the authorities had collected 14,260 blood slides, sprayed 31,128 houses and carried out anti-breeding checks at 352,775 houses. Of the houses inspected, he said, 2,771 were found positive while during anti-malaria operations 1,606 legal notices were issued and 1,217 cases were launched for prosecution. As part of the preventive measures for containing water-borne disease, the Minister said a total of 1,478 water samples were tested during the week out of which 14 were found unfit. Besides this, under the joint water testing with Delhi Jal Board, 718 samples were tested of which four were found unfit. While 17,30,911 chlorine tablets wand 7,884 ORS packets were distributed to prevent disease, the Minister said for creating awareness about disease 43,369 handbills, 1,208 posters and 3,767 stickers were distributed. A total of 87 raids against unhygienic food were also conducted during the week under which 26,966 kg of unwholesome food and 27,560 kg of substandard ice was seized. Also, Dr. Shastri said 823 water trolleys were checked, and action was initiated against 105 water trolleys
