Towards a cyber gallery

Staff Reporter

A painting by C.N. Karunakaran

KOCHI: The master of colour and lines is venturing out to the cyberspace, finally. It was long due, actually.

When senior artist C.N. Karunakaran opens his website, those who are fascinated by his mastery will be given a chance to see, and buy his works, from across the world. As he himself notes in the invitation to the inaugural function, this way he would be able to spend more time at the studio.

Karunakaran had always been the first to update himself to the changing times.

He was one of the first to take to the gallery and exhibition culture to promote selling the art.

The website, www.cnkarunakaran.com, is going to be his online gallery, "which anyone can access from anywhere in the world." The profile given in the site says that he started `Chithrakootam' - first private art gallery in the State, way back in the early `70s. He also operated an exclusive gallery, Ochre Gallery, along with mural artist K.K. Suresh, till recently.

The site is still in the evolution process, with just around 30 of his works appearing in it. The price ranges between Rs.10,000 and Rs.1 lakh. "This gallery will be continuously updated," said the artist.

With Karunakaran already getting many orders from outside the State, and country, the website is expected to push the stream of request. The website will be launched by Prakash Karat, general secretary, Communist Party of India (Marxist), at a function to be held at Samsar Hall, Bharat Tourist Home on August 25.
