NEW DELHI: It is all very special. Literally. Very Special Arts India in collaboration with Youthreach is organising a two-day theatre workshop for teachers from integrated as well as special schools beginning Thursday. The workshop, which will be conducted by noted dramatist Radhika Alkazi, aims at equipping teachers with elements of acting to communicate. The workshop will let teachers explore the different elements of theatre so that they are able to cater to needs of differently-abled students better. The workshop will be of two modules. Events under Module II will be organised here on November 2 and 3. It is an opportunity for teachers to find alternative ways of reaching out to students so that they can move beyond the usual method of instruction. An added edge really, the workshop is about opening a whole new world for teachers. Helping teachers to be more effective in the classroom, the focus will be on specific issues that they can use. In the business of building self-esteem, Very Special Arts India has been organising such workshops for a while now. Equipping teachers with another skill, they conduct three to four workshops each year. From drama to puppetry and textile painting, the idea is to use cultural skills to fill in the gap of communication. "For children with learning disability, formal educational programme leaves major gaps, which the medium of art can easily fill. Our children perform beautifully and express themselves well through the medium of arts and this can be significantly used in their education, " says project director Ambita Verdi.
