The results: Men (semifinals): Chennai bt Coimbatore 3-0 . Thiruvallur bt Madurai 3-0 . Women (semifinals): Chennai bt Namakal 2-0 . Coimbatore bt Madurai 2-0 .
IOB downs SECR
At Nagercoil, Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai, registered a 59-51 victory over South East Central Railway (SECR) in the four-team Zone `A' men's league of the second annual IOB-Bharat Ratna Rajeev Gandhi all-India basketball tournament organised by the Kanyakumari District Basketball Association on Tuesday. The results: Men (`A' Zone): IOB, Chennai 59 (Chandrasekar 14) bt South East Central Railway 51 (Sunder Singh 18). Women: SECR 61 (Bessen 18) bt Southern Railway 46 (Shyamala 13).
TN mauls Kerala
At Madurai, Tamil Nadu registered two resounding victories 9-0 over Kerala and 8-0 over Karnataka in the Employee's Provident Fund organisation South Zone football tournament organised by the Madurai Regional Office on Wednesday. The results: Tamil Nadu 9 (Damodharan 3, Vedamanickam 2, Muthuraman 2, Manikani, Thirumurugan) bt Kerala 0; Tamil Nadu 8 (Antony 4, Marikani, Damodharan, Vedamanickam, Pradeep) bt Karnataka 0.
Janarthanan advances
At Madurai, V.S.M.R. Janarthanan of Sourashtra Club defeated Mohanarangan of Billiards Kingdom 59-50, 51-43 to enter the third round of the district snooker ranking tournament organised by the Madurai District Billiards and Snooker Association on Wednesday. St. Mary's HSS in final
At Tirunelveli, defending champion St. Mary's HSS, Dindigul, thrashed. St. Paul's HSS, Chennai, 6-1, to enter the final of the ninth Bells Trophy State-level hockey tournament on Wednesday. St. Mary's will meet Christhu Raja HSS, Palayamkottai, which crushed St. Xavier's HSS, Palayamkottai, 7-0, in the final.
