BANGALORE: In a concerted effort to establish standards in public life, with particular focus on electoral politics, political parties and the judiciary, some eminent persons have formed a registered body called the Centre for Standards in Public Life (CSPL) under the chairmanship of the former Chief Justice of India M.N. Venkatachalaiah. Besides Mr. Venkatachalaiah, the former Union Minister and noted parliamentarian M.S. Gurupadaswamy, the former State Minister for Education B. Somashekar, the former MLA Chandrakanth Bellad and Mumtaz Ali Khan, an academic who was a member of the State Planning Board, are the founder trustees of the CSPL. Mr. Venkatachalaiah told presspersons here on Wednesday that the specific objectives of the Centre were to promote social, political and human values in public life. It would launch programmes for bringing in a fair and corruption-free electoral system. It would initiate measures to reform political parties to ensure standards in political behaviour. It would also make efforts to bring in reforms in the judicial system for speedy and inexpensive dispensation of justice. It would also act as a body to promote transformation in the administration, legislatures and the media, he said. A panel of experts would prepare and present memorandums to the Administrative Reforms Commission on some essential needs such as the formation of a Civil Services Board for transferring and posting of officers with responsibility and accountability. Mr. Gurupadaswamy, Mr. Somashekar, Prof. Khan and Mr. Bellad were present. The centre is housed at Aradhya Complex, First Floor, 21/1 Vani Vilas Road, Basavanagudi, Bangalore 560004. Details can be had from Prof. Ali Khan on phone nos. 9880201626 or 08023333217; email profdr.khan_kgn@vsnl.net.
