HYDERABAD: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) signed an agreement to form a joint venture company with an investment of over Rs. 6,000 crore to tap new coal mines within the country and overseas and to set up coal-based power plants. It was signed by R. H. Khwaja and T. Sankaralingam, CMDs respectively of the SCCL and NTPC, on Wednesday in the presence of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. To start with, an annual coal production target of 50 million tonnes has been fixed for the joint venture company. For this, six virgin coal blocs have already been identified in Jarkhand, Orissa, Chhatisgarh and Madhya Pradesh for exploitation while Indonesia and Australia are targeted overseas.
