BANGKOK: Thailand's Public Health Ministry on Wednesday introduced a mobile bird flu laboratory to be dispatched to Phichit province, which is prone to the disease. Public Health Minister Pinit Jarusombat said that with the launch of the hi-tech laboratory, test results could be obtained from the province within four hours. The mobile unit contains equipment designed by the Medical Sciences Department and has its own electricity generating facility. The Baht 15-million ($375,000) unit will be on duty round the clock. Its personnel can diagnose many diseases including bird flu, foot and mouth disease and dengue fever, the Minister said. The first mobile laboratory will be stationed in Phichit province and a second one in Bangkok. Xinhua
