KOLLAM: A jungle cat (Felis chaus), which reached Kottiyam, near here, in a lorry, is likely to be taken to the Thiruvananthapuram zoo. The cat, hungry and dehydrated, was in a bad shape, as the timber-laden lorry took two days for the journey from a forest area at Aryankavu to a depot at Kottiyam. The animal was found while the timber was being unloaded. B. Aravind, senior veterinary surgeon, took it to the Kottiyam veterinary hospital. The zoo authorities told him that since there was no jungle cat in their collection, they were prepared to take the animal, provided it was handed over to them in robust condition. Dr. Aravind said he was hopeful that the cat could be restored to normal condition within two days.
