Sonia to open Kotla memorial

It is being developed on the banks of Hundri river at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crores

    KURNOOL: Minister for Tourism and Culture J. Geetha Reddy and Minister for Lift Irrigation M.Mareppa, accompanied by senior officials, inspected the progress of work at Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy memorial on the banks of Hundri river here on Wednesday.

    MLAs Kotla Sujathamma, M.A. Gafoor, Secretary of Tourism and Culture Chitra Ramachandran and Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Raymond Peter, Joint Collector Ramsankar Naik and others were present.

    The memorial was developed at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crores. A photo gallery, open-air theatre and coffee bar were constructed. The pillars, which were part of the memorial, needed some repairs.

    Though steel casing was proposed around the pillars, at a cost Rs. 45 lakhs, it was decided to undertake temporary repairs in order to complete the works before the formal opening by Sonia Gandhi on September 27.

    The team also proposed to develop walking track in six-acre plot adjacent to the memorial. The land was owned by the Irrigation department.

    A boat-ride was also proposed in the KC Canal from Kisan ghat to Vinayak ghat.

    The road leading to the memorial would be widened at a cost of Rs. 10 lakhs.

    Later, the team visited the open land at APSRTC depot complex. Mr. Gafoor urged the Minister to develop it as a cultural complex by offering alternative land to the APSRTC to which the Minister promised to consider.
