NEW DELHI:
The Centre on Wednesday extended the suspension of Army operations against the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) for another fortnight.
Home Secretary V.K. Duggal made the announcement after a meeting here with ULFA mediators Indira Goswami and Rebati Phukan. National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan was also present. "No incident has taken place in Assam during the last 10 days since Army operations were halted. But in case any violence takes place, this will be reviewed," Mr. Duggal told reporters. The Centre on August 13 suspended operations against ULFA and it responded five days later, announcing a "cessation of hostilities."
