H.P. University declares fresh PMT results

Staff Correspondent

New test outcome has startled one and all

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh University has declared the results of the fresh Combined Pre Medical Test that it conducted after the High Court found massive leakage of question papers and bungling in the test conducted on May 26 this year.

The results have startled one and all and virtually endorsed the judgment of the Court that had observed that some very mediocre students had made it to the top and the meritorious students could not qualify or lagged behind in the merit list in the original test.

None of the 38 students out of first 60 students who were found by the enquiry committee as suspicious could qualify anywhere near the top positions this time. A topper of the last merit list with 708 marks could get just 215 marks this time which is about 70 per cent less than her earlier score.

A student who got 623 marks in the previous list and was qualifying for the top MBBS course in the State got just 36 marks this time shocking everybody. None of the top students who were later termed "tainted" in the enquiry report could now qualify for the MBBS or even the Dental College courses.

On the other hand, the student who has topped now was 85th in the earlier merit list and even the first 50 students in the present list did not figure in the earlier list of toppers. Most of the genuine and meritorious students have already left the State and joined courses outside the State. Only around 4,200 students appeared this time out of 5,400 the last time round.

The State Assembly was rocked by a debate on the examination scam over the last two days and the Opposition had even staged a walkout from the House on Tuesday. The Chief Minister had assured exemplary punishment for those involved in the scam.
