Tributes paid to Kirpal Singhji Maharaj

NEW DELHI: A large number of people congregated at different centres of Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission worldwide on Monday to pay tributes to Param Sant Kirpal Singhji Maharaj on the occasion of his 32nd Barsi Bhandara.

A spokesman of the Mission here said that at Kirpal Bagh in Delhi an audio-visual was screened on the Maharaj's life recalling his contributions to humanity. People from different walks of life paid rich tributes to the Sant who was president of the World Fellowship of Religions Conferences from 1957 to 1970. He also organised the First Human Unity Conference in 1974.

BHEL conclave

NEW DELHI: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) on Wednesday organised a conclave here of liaison officers and office-bearers of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Associations of the company.

BHEL Chairman and Managing Director Ashok K. Puri highlighted the status of implementation of the reservation policy in the company that has seen a quantum jump in Scheduled Castes representation from 9.2 per cent in 1970 to 18.71 per cent at present.

Stamp released

NEW DELHI: The Department of Posts unveiled a commemorative stamp on the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) recently in recognition of the Corporation's contribution towards energy security in the past 50 years.

Known as the biggest wealth-creator for the country, ONGC has been depicted in the stamp through its legendary drill ship "Sagar Samrat" that was used by it to discover Bombay High. The stamp was released by the Secretary (Posts), Government of India, Jyotsna Diesh.

Protest rally

NEW DELHI: The Students' Federation of India took out a protest rally on the South Campus of Delhi University on Wednesday demanding, among other things, hostel facilities as well as double shifts in colleges to increase the number of seats.

Also, it has demanded an increase in U-Special buses besides improved libraries.

Life sentence

NEW DELHI: A city court sentenced two persons to life imprisonment on Wednesday in a murder-cum-robbery case.

The court of Additional Sessions Judge B K Kedia also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on the accused Rajesh and Surendra.

The two were charged with killing Naseem Khan and decamping with Rs 40,000 in cash from a factory in the Sadar Bazaar area in April 2002.
