KARIMNAGAR: Karimnagar Town Congress committee president Akarapu Bhaskar Reddy who made a suicide bid on Sunday, launched a scathing attack against Minister for Sports M Satyanarayana Rao for neglecting the real party workers and encouraging members of his own family in the allocation of nominated posts. Addressing a press conference at his residence here on Wednesday, after being discharged from the hospital, Mr Bhaskar Reddy alleged that the Congress party has weakened under the leadership of Mr Satyanarayana Rao with successive poor performance in local bodies and municipal elections in the district. He demanded that the party high command convene a meeting to review the performance of the Congress in the district.
Clarifies stand
Refuting charges made by the Minister that he had resorted to suicide attempt only to defame Mr Rao's political career, he said that "it was unfortunate that the Minister had stooped so low and cast aspersions on me. I had resorted to the extreme act for being isolated from the party,'' he said. "I don't entertain a personal grudge against the Minister. He is like my father,'' he added. He also alleged that the Minister had nominated one of his kin as Karimnagar Agricultural Market Committee chairman. He dwelt on his own unstinting support to Mr Satyanarayana Rao during the Assembly elections and also his personal campaigning in local bodies elections to bring laurels home to Mr. Rao.
