Posts vacant in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu and Hassan districts

  • Corruption cases are pending at the local office of the Lok Ayukta
  • Ten cases of corruption are in various stages of trial

MANGALORE: Steps will be taken to appoint Lok Ayukta police inspectors against vacancies in various districts under Mysore division. Barring Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Chikmagalur, the post of police inspector under the Lok Ayukta is vacant in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu and Hassan districts, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Superintendent of Police (Lok Ayukta), said on Wednesday.

Interacting with presspersons during his visit to the Lok Ayukta office here, he said he had obtained information about various cases of corruption pending at the local office of the Lok Ayukta. People would be kept informed about progress of these cases after they were reviewed, he said.

    Cases of corruption

Asked specifically about cases of corruption registered against Krishnappa, Karnataka State Reserve Police battalion commandant, and Linge Gowda, engineer with the Mangalore City Corporation, for possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income, Mr. Vidyasagar said these were under investigation. Once the investigations were complete, they would seek the Government's permission to prosecute these officers, he said.

At least 10 ten cases of corruption against officers who were caught by the Lok Ayukta team in the recent past were in various stages of trial and the results of these would be known shortly, Mr. Vidyasagar said.

    Vacant post

Incidentally, the post of Superintendent of Police (Lok Ayukta) has been vacant since C.B. Malajure retired on March 31 this year. Since then, many officers have been given additional charge of Dakshina district.
