Small-scale industry status sought for hotels

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI : The Tamil Nadu Hotels Association has urged the State Government to include the hotels under small scale industry segment. A resolution was passed at the general body meeting of the association held recently. In a release, the association said that under the Central Government's Labour Guarantee Laws, the hotels were categorised under industries. Laws relating to provident fund and labour were implemented in the hotels.

Hence, the association wanted the Government to include the hotels under the SSI category. It also wanted the Government to allow the hotels to operate round-the-clock rather than closing after late night hours. The association also said several essential commodities were sold `online' and because of that their prices had skyrocketed.
