The role of AAI is gaining importance

CHENNAI
: With Indian skies getting overcrowded with new and existing airlines spreading their wings, the role of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Southern Region, is gaining importance.
"Meet the Airline and Meet the Media" programmes have been initiated by K. Ramalingam, Regional Executive Director of the AAI, Southern Region, who is based in Chennai.
Dr. Ramalingam's office is located in the imposing and sensitive Air Traffic Services complex in Meenambakkam.
The woes of the airline operators are being readdressed by himself.
"We are happy that the AAI Southern Regional Head himself is undertaking the task of patiently listening to the operational grievances of airlines and sorting them out", said a spokesperson of Air Deccan, a low-cost carrier.
Dr. Ramalingam has not only undertaken this exercise to know the problems of the operators but also sensitising mediapersons to writing about aviation-related issues and developments. Similar meetings with representatives of Jet Airways, and the national domestic carrier, Indian (formerly Indian Airlines), have taken place.
Dr. Ramalingam's initiative has not only elicited positive response from the airlines but his efforts to educate the general media on aviation issues have also received a warm reception.
