`Life... you're worth it'

Special Correspondent

Campaign launched to prevent suicides

Bangalore: "Life is invaluable, and you as a person are worth it" is the message that 316 children and teenagers from 13 schools and five colleges have for anyone feeling despondent. It comes at a time when suicide among the young has become common, especially following poor grades in examinations.

It is a message for their peers, parents and anyone else concerned, and it has been shortened into "Life... You're Worth It" and will be displayed soon all across the city. Well in time for World Suicide Prevention Day that falls on September 10. There will be two programmes: a seminar on September 9 at NIMHANS and a celebration at the Cubbon Park bandstand on September 10 in which eminent citizens of Bangalore will participate.

In the run-up to the selection of the best suicide prevention message, placards have been made by students in schools and colleges across Bangalore under the guidance of volunteers trained by Diana Tholoor of Chrysalis. Every poster communicates how life can be enjoyed, despite fear of failure.
