Students present models of old Madras

Chennai:
Fifty six students from eight city schools in North Chennai presented projects on Old Madras and other facets of Chennai that was Madras at Thanga Maligai in Kaladipet on Tiruvottriyur High Road on Wednesday. Models of the old Royapuram railway station, history of Villivakkam that was once having abundant `vilva' trees, Robinson Park (now Arignar Anna Poonga), were presented. Saivaite Middle School from Vallalar Nagar made a presentation on the role of Sivacharyars in education. Students from Vellaiyan Chetty Higher Secondary School made a model of an idyllic coastline for North Chennai with a tsunami warning system.
As part of Madras Day celebrations, there was an exhibition of old Madras stamps, photos and maps at Clive Hall, Fort St. George. V. Sriram spoke to Madras Book Club members. There was a talk on K.R.A. Narasiah on `History of Madras City,' for the Rotary Club members.
