HYDERABAD: With the demolition of 27 shops at Sanathnagar crossroads in the last few days, the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad has been able to get rid of one among the four major traffic bottlenecks on the main road from Punjagutta. Shalimar café junction, Ameerpet junction and the heritage structure of `Makbari' near S.R. Nagar are the other three obstacles identified by the corporation to ease the traffic flow. The café will face the axe anytime now since it has been acquired through the land acquisition route. There are about 20 to 25 properties, both Government and private, to be acquired at Ameerpet crossroads. The road from Punjagutta to Erragadda is to be developed to 150 ft and the road from Lakidikapul till Punjagutta will be widened to 100 ft as per the road development plan and also to provide the right of way for Hyderabad Metro Rail. MCH has managed to take over 79 properties through mutual consent of the 248 properties listed for demolitions. The break up: 123 properties between Punjagutta-Ameerpet, 113 properties between Ameerpet-Erragadda and 12-15 properties from Punjagutta to Lakidikapul. "Widening, demolitions and construction of compound walls will be taken up simultaneously at various stretches. So far we have managed to take most properties through consent or we will acquire them through land acquisition," says Additional Commissioner (Planning & Projects) K. Dhananjaya Reddy. Among those listed for cutting are Government quarters near Punjagutta for which the General Administration Department (GAD) was approached for permission. Shadan College and ESI Hospital compound walls are to be re-built with widening to affect their properties.
