HYDERABAD: For Shiva Kumar, a tenth standard student of Gautami Talent High School, Santoshnagar, it was a day to remember when his design for the Sunfeast Open International Tennis Tournament, scheduled to be held in Kolkata later this year, was approved for the first prize by a panel of judges. The trophy which is to be designed based on his artwork will be presented to the eventual winner of the tournament expected to feature big names of women's tennis including Hyderabad's Sania Mirza.
Nationwide contest
The city boy was among the 400 schoolchildren who took part in the nationwide competition conducted to select the best design for the mega tennis event. The trophy depicts a woman with the tennis racket embedded in the right leg and the tresses representing the Sunfeast logo. For Shiva Kumar , this was his maiden competition and he could complete the design in just 40 minutes on the given day. "I was thrilled when I was chosen the winner," said a beaming Shiva flanked by his parents. His father Seshadri Goud is a businessman. The fact that the panel comprised Suva Prasanna, former football great P. K. Banerjee and filmmaker Gautam Ghosh gives him greater satisfaction. "I feel it is an honour to be selected by such a distinguished panel," he said.
