Bangalore: Doctors in the Bangalore Institute of Oncology here have performed a major surgery on a 70-year-old patient and removed 18 kg tumour from her abdomen. The patient had swelling in the stomach for the past seven years and was unable to walk because of the huge mass in the abdomen. According to hospital authorities, she visited a number of hospitals in the city for her problem but she was refused treatment as the tumour was in its advanced stage and could not be easily removed. K. Harish, surgical oncologist at the institute and his team, surgically removed the tumour. "The tumour was occupying the entire abdomen and it was tricky to remove it without injuring other vital structures," Dr. Harish said. Ajai Kumar, Chairman of the Bangalore Institute of Oncology, said: "We have always strived to ensure quality care to our patients with a good team of doctors," he said.
