THE CENTRE for Postgraduate Studies of Surana College, Kengeri, inducted the new batch of MBA and MCA students. Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Commission and former Chief Secretary A. Ravindra inaugurated the induction programme. Mr. Ravindra said: "Management education is not only about managing businesses but also managing cities, non-governmental organisations, dairies, cooperatives and so on. Students should not only look at landing jobs with multinational corporations but aim at building organisations our country requires." Surana College Principal K.E. Radhakrishna asked students to consider the needs of less privileged sections of society too. Dean of Studies H.R. Appannaiah presided over the programme.
Workshop
XAVIER INSTITUTE of Management and Entrepreneurship, Bangalore, organised a two-day workshop on knowledge management, attended by participants representing academic institutions and companies such as IISc., Infosys, SAP Labs and HTMT. R. Nagarajan, former Chairman of AICTE, who inaugurated the workshop, stressed on the role of knowledge management strategy as a key differentiator for businesses in today's knowledge economy. Tavarakere Srikantaiah, Director, Centre for Knowledge Management, Dominican University, U.S., said knowledge management was a critical success factor in a competitive business scenario.
Doctorate
Coventry University, U.K., has conferred an honorary doctorate on M.R. Jayaram, Chairman of Gokula Education Foundation that runs the M.S.Ramaiah group of institutions, for his contribution to the cause of higher education in this region. British universities were usually conservative regarding the award of honorary doctorates only 25 Indians had received them over the last 10 years. The foundation led by Mr. Jayaram had established 17 professional colleges all on one campus, Gnanagangothri.
Freshers' Day
The Students' Association, 2006-07, of Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College for Women celebrated Freshers' Day. Humorist and scriptwriter Narasimha Murthy, who was a chief guest, narrated a series of humorous incidents in Kannada. Social worker Janaki Vishwamathan presented a dance programmes by physically challenged children from Fame India organisation managed by her. Principal of the college Shantha was among those present.
Tie-up
The University of Dallas Graduate School of Management and Dayananda Sagar institutions of Bangalore, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to offer first year MBA courses in India and second year courses conducted on the Dallas campus in the U.S. University of Dallas will confer the MBA degree. D. Hemachandra Sagar, Chairman, Dayananda Sgar Institutions; Frank Lazarus, President, University of Dallas; and J. Lee Whittington, Dean of the College of Business; spoke. about their emphasis on and dedication to relevance, rigour and convenience and the choice offered in courses.
Confluence 2006
C.B. Bhandari Jain College for Women will host "Confluence 2006", their fifth annual inter-college festival on September 1 and 2.
