Court upholds G.O. on religious identity
Legal Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
A Division Bench of the High Court upheld the order of the Government wherein it was declared that religious identity declared and recorded at Class X level will be the criteria for seeking admission into respective minority institutions for B.Ed course.
It may be recalled that the Government issued a G.O. to streamline admissions into minority B. Ed colleges. It was said that the religion mentioned in Transfer Certificate, issued at the end of Class X, should form the basis for admissions into B. Ed course.
Some Christian minority institutions and students filed writ petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the G.O.
They contended that to declare a person who changes the religion after Class X will not be eligible to get admission into minority institution based up on the recent religious conversion is unconstitutional.
The Bench called for the records and was satisfied with the Government stand that the G.O. would protect genuine minority students and prevents last-minute claims based upon the alleged conversion just before the admissions.
The batch of writ petitions was dismissed by the Division Bench on Wednesday morning.
