Robbers held

NEW DELHI: Two alleged robbers were arrested following an encounter with the Special Cell of the Delhi police at Uttam Nagar in West Delhi on Tuesday. The police claim to have seized two firearms and recovered stolen jewellery at their instance.

Constable Anil of the Special Cell received a tip-off that two robbers, Sunil and Amit Sehrawat, would come to Uttam Nagar to target a jeweller on Tuesday. Subsequently, a team led by Inspector Pankaj Sood under the supervision of Ravi Shankar laid a trap.

The police team tried to intercept a motorcycle the suspects were riding, at which they opened fire. The police fired in retaliation and overpowered the duo after they fell from the motorcycle.

During interrogation, they allegedly disclosed that they were residents of Najafgarh in South-West Delhi. They allegedly joined hands with other criminals other area to make quick buck. Their accomplice, Raju, allegedly plan to target a jeweller at Alwar in Rajasthan. To execute the plan, they stole a Maruti Esteem car from R.K. Puram, went to Alwar and robbed the jeweller of ornaments worth Rs. 2.5 lakhs. In the process, they injured him and his son.

At their instance, the police recovered 34 diamond and gold rings and tops.
