NEW DELHI: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted with the Crime Against Women Cell of Krishna Nagar in East Delhi has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly accepting a bribe from a complainant. The accused had threatened the complainant to implicate him in a dowry case if he did not pay up. According to the CBI, accused Pushpa Rattan had demanded Rs. 4,000 from Ravi, a resident of Timarpur. Following negotiations, the deal was allegedly fixed at Rs. 3,000. However, the complainant informed the CBI which laid a trap at the office of the accused where she was arrested on Wednesday. Investigations revealed that Ravi's engagement with a woman had broken down following which a complaint was filed with the Crime Against Women Cell. In this connection, the accused ASI threatened the complainant and had demanded the bribe. This is the second case within a fortnight of an ASI of the Crime Against Women Cell at Krishna Nagar being arrested by the CBI for allegedly accepting bribe. On August 11, ASI Anita Rai was arrested for allegedly demanding Rs. 5,000 from a complainant to accept his bail bond and that of his family. Earlier, a city court had granted anticipatory bail to the complainant who, along with his family, was accused in a case of criminal breach of trust and demand of dowry. Further investigations are on.
