FIRST BATCH: The passing-out parade of 286 constable recruits at the Kerala Armed Police-III Camp at Vadakkadathukavu, near Adoor, on Thursday.
PATHANAMTHITTA: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said here on Thursday that a special wing would soon be set up in the State police to check cyber crimes. The Minister was addressing the passing-out ceremony of the first batch of 286 constable recruits at the Kerala Armed Police-III camp at Vadakkadathukavu, near Adoor. He said necessary technical training and computer education would be given to all police personnel in the State as part of modernisation of the force. Mr. Balakrishnan said necessary changes would be made in the curricula of various police training programmes at the Police Academy, if needed. He called upon the police to take protection of human rights as their responsibility. The Minister said the Government was also looking into the recommendation of various commissions, including the one headed by the former Supreme Court Judge K.T. Thomas, to make Plus-Two the basic qualification for recruitment of police constables. He said steps would be taken to fill the vacancies of sub-inspectors and constables in the police in a time-bound manner. He said the Public Service Commission (PSC) has already initiated steps to fill about 2,000 vacancies of sub-inspectors, he said.The Minister said police constables who have completed 15 years of service would be promoted as head constables and those with 23 years of service would be elevated to the cadre of Additional Sub-Inspector (ASI). Constable recruits T.N. Sudarshan who has been selected the Best All-rounder and Best Outdoor in the training programme, J. Binukumar, Best Indoor, and Jayaprakash, Best Shooter, were felicitated on the occasion. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, MLA; Additional Director General of Police (Armed Police) Alphons Louis Irayil; Inspector-General of Police B. Sandhya; KAP-III Commandant E.J.Jayaraj; District Collector Ashok Kumar Singh; and Superintendent of Police M.N. Jayaprakash also attended the function.
