When K.P. Udayabhanu sang "Anuraga natakathil... " on Wednesday night on the premises of All India Radio station in Kozhikode, time stood still. More than four decades may have passed since he first rendered that timeless song from `Ninamaninja Kalpadukal', but he sounded just as wonderful, and sad. But Udayabhanu had not come to the Kozhikode AIR station to sing though; he was there to rekindle his memories about the institution where he worked in the 1950s. Wednesday's musical evening was part of a series presented by the Kozhikode AIR station to celebrate Onam, named `Ormakal'. Also to share their memories about the station with a large gathering were P.V. Krishamurthy, one of the first assistant station directors in Kozhikode AIR, B.A. Chidambaranath and M.G. Radhakrishnan, both well-known music directors and former AIR staffers. The series had commenced last Sunday with a programme focussing on the media. Tuesday saw the wives of a few famous writers coming together, while Thursday belonged to the business community of Kozhikode. The week-long event concludes on Sunday with a programme about literature. Before that, cinema will be in focus on Saturday. "I am delighted that these programmes have been well received by the people of Kozhikode," says C.P. Rajasekharan, station director. "This is the first time we are conducting an event of this magnitude. Programmes based on the event will be broadcast by all the AIR stations in Kerala from August 4 to 7."
