Monsoon has many colours. Some are on display at the Orthic Creative Centre, the art space created by senior artist T. Kaladharan at his residence.

Works by 21 artists who participated in the painting camp, `Karkidakom,' are currently exhibited. The camp was the second in the series of painting camps held at Orthic.

G. Rajendran, C.S. Jayaram, Sidharthan, Satish P.R., P.V. Nandan, Rajan M. Krishnan, Asanthan, Tom J. Vattankuzhy, Biju Kumar V.K., Rengeesh, A.K. Salim, Saju Ayyamppally, Hochimin, Adarsh Alphonse, Minna Philip, Asha Nandan, Thomas Kurishinkal and Francis attended the camp.

The signature of the camp was done by the host Kaladharan.

He has brought out 11 small works, featuring Arabic words written on characteristic colour compositions by him. The camp ended on August 7, which read in the digital calendar as 7.8.6, which has a significance in Islam. The words selected by Kaladharan to be written on the frames were `sky', `earth', `water', `fire', `air', `to Mother', `with love', `to me', `to you', `in memory' and `bowing to the teacher'.

The works are arranged in such a manner that the figures of 786 could be visualised.

"But for Paris Viswanathan, who visited the exhibition, the combination of works connoted 9/11, if the white wall on the backdrop is also considered as part of the spectacle," says Kaladharan. Meanings, in art and life, are never linear.

The exhibition began o August 15, along with a discussion on M.V. Devan's book Swatantryam Kondu Naam Entu Cheythu? (What did we do with Independence?). This was the first in the series of literary discussions at Orthic Creative Centre.

The Centre will soon host a two-day workshop on `History of Art' to be led by artist and teacher C.S. Jayaram.

"This will be cover the whole stretch of art history, supported by slides. This will be useful to budding artists and art lovers," says Kaladharan.

He has always stood for supporting upcoming artists, as his gallery space ensures space for new artists along with senior and established ones.

This will be followed by a camp on mural and sculpture next month and one for oil painting and glass painting, or Orthic, as Kaladharan has named it, in October.
